Chennai: Teen falls off bridge to death as bike rams wall

Chennai: Tension prevailed in Chromepet area, where one of the juveniles died after the bike, in which he was riding pillion, hit the retaining wall on Friday morning. The police also found ganja in the bike and enquired with the injured juvenile.

According to police, the two male juveniles, aged 16, were riding a bike to an area on Friday morning and when they returned to their homes located near Gangaiyamman koil in Hasthinapuram in Chromepet, the accident happened.

When the bike reached MIT bridge at 10.30 am, the juvenile, who rode the bike lost control and hit the bridge wall and in the impact, the pillion rider was thrown off bridge from a height of 40 feet and he died on the spot. The juvenile, who rode the bike was injured and rushed to the nearby private hospital.

Police suspected that both victims could have been under influence of ganja and it could have led to the accident.

A traffic investigating police said that both were heading from Tambaram towards Hastinapuram and they suspected that they could have purchased ganja in some secluded area.

While the dead juvenile was studying in IIT and he was a first year student, another was working in an electronic shop. People were shocked to see the juvenile falling off the bridge.

Police went a step further and examined the bike after reaching the spot. “To our shock, we found 250 grams of ganja stuffed in the bag of bike. Since the injured juvenile is out of danger, we will investigate him about the place where they were getting ganja,” added the police officer in Chrompert.

The Chromepet traffic investigation registered a case and further investigation is on.
