Visveswaraya Technological University students to observe bandh on Friday

Protesting against the hike in examination fee, several students said it was of no help either to the evaluators or to them.

Belagavi: The All India Democratic Students' Organisation has called a bandh in all engineering colleges affiliated to the Visveswaraya Technological University (VTU) on Friday in protest against its failure to streamline the evaluation process and conduct of examinations.

A large number of students led by the ABVP staged another agitation at the VTU campus here and a bike rally was taken out in Belagavi city on Thursday to create awareness about the bandh.

While several students from various organisations are expected to participate in the protest against the VTU at Rani Chennamma Circle in Belagavi on Friday, Joint Secretary of AIDSO, Mahantesh B, claimed most colleges affiliated to the VTU would also close in support of the bandh.

“The VTU created a lot of inconvenience for engineering students in 2016 by delaying the announcement of results. It declared the regular results and revaluation results merely a day before the start of fresh examinations,” he recalled.

Protesting against the hike in examination fee, several students said it was of no help either to the evaluators or to them. “Many who are doing crash courses have been facing a lot of problems as classes and lab sessions have not been held,” they pointed out. The protesters also demanded that those in the third year of their degree courses should continue to be covered by the 2010 VTU scheme.
