TTV Dhinakaran gets time to cross examine witness

On August 10, the High Court directed that the cross examination of PW-1 should be completed by August 31 commencing from the date August 16.

Chennai: Madras high court has granted more time to TTV Dhinakaran, deputy general secretary of AIADMK (Amma), to complete the cross examination of prosecution witness-I in a 20-year old Fera case trial before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Economic Offence-II) Court, Egmore at Allikulam.

When a petition filed by TTV came up for hearing before Justice M.S. Ramesh, the judge granted time till September 11, 2017 to complete the cross examination of the Prosecution Witness-1 and also directed the Enforcement Directorate to ensure the appearance of PW1.

On August 10, the High Court directed that the cross examination of PW-1 should be completed by August 31 commencing from the date August 16. The prosecution has produced the PW-1 only on August 28 and sought extension of time for the cross-examination. Hence, TTV filed the petition before the high court.

Appearing on behalf of TTV, senior counsel B. Kumar submitted that in view of voluminous of documents and number of witnesses it may not be possible to complete the cross examination in short period. Therefore, he sought more time to complete the process.

“It is now brought to my notice through the petition seeking extension of time that the prosecution had not produced PW-1 for cross examination till August 28. Hence Cross examination could not be made from August 16 to 28,” Justice Ramesh said. The judge said the petitioner can be granted further time of ten days for completing cross-examination of PW-1.
