Chennai: Aspiring racer falls into pond after hitting boulder, dies
Chennai: A 21-year-old aspiring bike racer from Kerala was killed after he unknowingly took an unfinished road near Perungudi MRTS station on Wednesday night and hit a boulder, falling into a pond nearby.
The deceased was identified as V. Avish (21) of Tirupuram in Kerala. He reached the city on Wednesday morning and was to join the Madras Motor Sports Club, police said. His bike-Yamaha YZF-R15 was put on train and it reached late evening on Wednesday. After procuring his two-wheeler from the Central railway station, Avish was riding towards Velachery to meet his friend when he met with the accident. “He had taken the road adjacent to the railway track, unaware that it was incomplete,” a police officer said.
As he came to the end of the road, he couldn’t control his bike and hit the boulders kept there and was thrown into a water body by the side of the road, police said.
A lone security guard who was on duty nearby in the deserted stretch, rushed to his aid, hearing the loud noise. Avish was moved to the Kilpauk Medical College hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Traffic officials said that several motorists are unaware that the stretch intended to connect Perungudi and Velachery is incomplete and take the road, only to ride back. The deceased was new to the city and he was riding in the dark leading to the accident, police said. His family members in Kerala have been informed about the accident and they are on the way to the city, police said.
