Heavy rainfall kill 8 across Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Heavy rain in city on Wednesday left at least eight people including two infants, dead in three different mishaps.
While a three-member family was killed when their house collapsed at Bholakpur in Musheerabad, a four-member-family died when a newly-constructed wall collapsed in Ramanthapur. Another person was electrocuted at Falaknuma when he was taking shelter near a shop from rain.
Rescue attempt by locals fails
In the first incident at Musheerabad, a 27-year-old mother and her two infants got stuck under debris when their house roof and wall collapsed on Wednesday morning at around 9 am.
The victim Bilquis Fatima and her children, Mariya Fatima, 1, and Zuiba Fathima, 3, got stuck under an almirah. According to police the house was more than 40 years old and four families were residing there.
“We heard a noise and sand was falling from the roof. We all came down and moved to a room. My brother Nadeem also came out of his room to see what was happening but his wife and children were inside. Suddenly that room’s wall gave away and the roof came down,” said Waseem Jani, brother of Nayeem.
The locals and relatives started a rescue mission, but they could only pull out the bodies of victims. The firemen and police reached the spot much later, the victims’ family members said.
In the second incident at Ramanthapur, a newly-constructed wall collapsed due to heavy rains claiming four persons from a construction worker’s family. Police said that Balaswamy, 40 had migrated to Hyderabad from Malla Chintapally village of Kolhapur mandal in Mahbubnagar district with his wife Chennamma, 35, daughter Parvathi, 18, and son Shekar, 12. They were living in a hut near a construction site of Imperial Complex at Pragathi-nagar in Ramanthapur.
The basement was under construction and soil filling work was on. Due to the rain, the wall became weak and collapsed. The granite wall came down on the hut, trapping the victims.
In the third incident, a 27-year-old unidentified person died from electrocution at Falaknuma. Police said the victim took shelter in front of a shop at Jahanuma, where a transformer was located. His body came in contact with water on the ground, where a high tension cable had fallen. Police said that the details and whereabouts of the deceased were not yet confirmed.
