Kerala government revokes Aranmula NoC

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ordered to take immediate steps to cancel notification declaring it an industrial area.

Kochi: The state government on Wednesday informed the Kerala High Court that it has cancelled permission for the proposed airport at Aranmula.

It was found that the proposed project area constituted a large extent of paddy and wet land which cannot be legally converted for the purpose of a private company in view of existing legal provisions. It was also found that the provisions of the Land Reforms Act, especially the ceiling provisions, will also come into play regarding the title and ownership of the extent of land now claimed by the private company.

The government also considered the judgment of the National Green Tribunal setting aside the Environmental Clearance, which was upheld by the Supreme Court and also considered the factual situation of continuing the Industrial area notification and continuing in-principle sanction. After the verification, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had ordered to take immediate steps to cancel notification declaring it an industrial area and also to examine whether Government Order granting in-principle sanction to the Airport project be cancelled. KGS Group was accorded sanction for the project.
