Aviation policy tweak: Now, investors can land smoothly in Karnataka

Cabinet on Wednesday decided to amend the aviation policy and add more sops for investors.

Bengaluru: In a determined effort to ensure that Karnataka remains the top destination in aerospace sector, the cabinet on Wednesday decided to amend the aviation policy and add more sops for investors.

Law minister, T.B. Jayachandra, told the media after a meeting of the cabinet that Karnataka has attracted investments of Rs 14,520 crores by issuing approvals for 33 investment proposals.

“The state has an ideal atmosphere and state-of-the-art production facilities including aviation SEZs and specialised parks, and is home to industries in R&D, equipment design and production. Therefore, Karnataka is determined to safeguard its leadership in the sector. Under the amended policy, sops will be enhanced for investors,” he added.

He said the state could boast of a helicopter manufacturing unit in Tumkuru and R&D facilities in Chitradurga were attracting ancillary units. “Mysuru and Belagavi are emerging as mini hubs of the aviation industry. Karnataka accounts for 40 per cent of aviation equipment manufactured in the country. This will get a further boost due to the amended policy,” he contended.

He said the state government would constitute a high-lelvel experts’ committee to monitor the progress of this sector, while simultaneously joining becoming part of the skill development committee headed by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. “The committee headed by HAL plans to train more than five lakh youth over a period of 10 to 15 years,” he explained.

The cabinet gave its nod to bring changes in the bio-technology sector and accorded sanction for seven paramedical colleges. The government would seek approval from Medical Council of India for 320 more seats.
