Truth behind scam should not be suppressed: SR Hiremath

Hiremath also said there was no truth in reports of harassment from Income Tax department.

Bengaluru: The founder president of Samaj Parivarthana Samudaya and anti-corruption crusader S R Hiremath has urged the government and investigating agency to ensure that the truth behind 'Dark Fiber and Co-Location' scam is not buried or submerged after the tragic death of Café Coffee Day owner VG Siddhartha.

Addressing reporters here on Wednesday, he said the Way2Wealth and Alpha Group owned by Siddhartha and his family were beneficiaries of illegal proceeds of the scam. Expressing condolence over Siddhartha's death, he said the entrepreneur and Congress leader D K Shivakumar have several common transactions that need to be probed.

He also said there was no truth in reports of harassment from Income Tax department.

Stating that the letter purportedly written by the entrepreneur is scripted to mislead the investigation, he alleged that the proceeds of the scam have crossed the borders of the country and some of it diverted back into his companies. "It is very pertinent to mention that the SEBI has imposed Rs 14.5 crore fine on two of Siddhartha's companies having offices in Singapore and Hong Kong. The probe agencies should detect all illegal assets created within the country and abroad to take the case to its logical end. Intense pressure from an influencial political leader might have forced him to take the extreme step of ending his life", Hiremath said.

Suspecting that the scam is only tip of the iceberg as tens of thousands of crores of rupees were involved in it, he also said this major scandal and large debt were among the reasons for the tragic demise of Siddhartha.

"I will release more documents in connection with the scam involving campanies belonging to Siddhartha. But, it is not the right moment to do so at the time of sad demise of the entrepreneur. I express my deep concern and sympathy to his family members. I pray for his departed soul to rest in eternal peace", he added.
