Thiruvananthapuram: Cusat to test Vytilla bridge
Thiruvananthapuram: Public Works Department minister G. Sudhakaran has initiated measures to ensure nothing is wrong with Vyttila Bridge. Apart from Chennai IIT, Mr Sudhakaran has also entrusted CUSAT to hold yet another quality control test where the Vyttila Bridge's strength and quality will be ascertained.
In a statement, the minister alleged that the latest controversy on Vyttila bridge has been hatched so as to deviate the attention from the Palarivattom flyover fiasco.
It should be recalled that last week quality control section assistant executive engineer V. K. Shaylamol had filed a report pointing out irregularities in the construction of the Vyttila flyover. When the woman official allegedly informed the media about the discrepancies, it had not gone down well with the PWD minister which led to her suspension.
Mr Sudhakaran informed on Wednesday after the meeting with PWD secretary Anand Singh, design chief engineer, National Highway superintending engineer and PWD vigilance deputy chief engineer that in the examination by three agencies, there have been no irregularities.
“The Government decided to appoint yet another agency, CUSAT to undertake the core test as the controversy is continuing unabated", the minister said.
He also added that the suspension of the woman engineer is as per government rules.
