Kochi: Thousands thronged the Aluva Manalpuram to offer balitharpanam, a ritual performed by the devotees for their forefathers on the occasion of ‘Karkki-daka Vavu’ on Wednesday.

Acco-rding to officials with the TDB, the insurance can claim up to Rs 1 crore for accidental death within 5 kilometer radius at the Manalpuram.

The Devaswom Board, the district administration and police had made elaborate arrangements to help people offer the ritual. The dangerously deep portions of the river were separated using barricades. A team of fire and rescue unit had been deployed at the Manalppuram from Tuesday evening.
