Coimbatore: Drishyam’s community eye-care drive for needy

The doctor urged LCI members to become brand ambassadors to create awareness on eye donations.

COIMBATORE: To commemorate the golden jubilee year of Ladies Circle India (LCI), as a community eye care initiative, the social service organisation in association with Kovai-based Sankara Eye Foundation, launched ‘Drishyam’ meaning ‘be the light’, community eye care programme for the needy on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, LCI national president, Nidhi Gupta, said, “In LCI, efforts to reach beyond constructing schools and toilet blocks under the theme of ‘Educate to Enlighten’, marking its 50th golden year, the pan-India project ‘Drishyam’ is launched as a community eye care initiative, which will provide comprehensive eye care to the needy across the country. With a three-point agenda of preventive care, curative care and rehabilitation, the initiative will be subsequently launched in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, through Sankara Eye Hospital, a source associated with the project said.

Dr R V Ramani, founder and managing trustee, Sankara Eye Care Institutions, which has a pan-India presence, assured supporting the project through the chain of hospitals. The doctor urged LCI members to become brand ambassadors to create awareness on eye donations.
