Kanimozhi twitter handle hacked to trigger Hindu anger
Chennai: The city police are investigating a complaint from a DMK functionary alleging that party Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi’s twitter handle had been compromised to spread a fake tweet abusing Hindu practices in praying for her father Karunanidhi’s well-being.
The complaint addressed to the cyber crime wing of the Chennai police had carried with it the photo-copy of the Tamil tweet under the @kanimozhiDMK tag, which had her saying that she had thrown into the dustbin the prasadam of Lord Ganesha sent by Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath (for Karunanidhi's healing). "No religious leader need to visit my ailing father. No DMK member should resort to superstitious practices such as conducting poojas in temples and tonsuring the heads", said the tweet in Tamil.
Yet another tweet, which could be even more abusive and reprehensive to not just the believers but even to the general public had her saying that she had gone to the Tirupati temple during menstruation but did Venkatachalapathy kill her? "This is what Periyar had termed as superstitious", the tweet had said.
Both the tweets are bogus and have been created by mischievous elements only with a view to drive a wedge between Kanimozhi and the Hindu community, said the complaint to the police lodged on Tuesday by DMK executive committee member R. J. Selvanayagam, who insisted that she had never done anything to hurt the sentiments of any segment of society. He said the fraudster had created the twitter handle on July 30 (Monday) whereas Kanimozhi has not been using her twitter for the last few days as she was busy attending on her hospitalized father.
"She is not against any religion; only opposed superstitious beliefs", said the complainant. "These fake tweets have been posted after creating a fake twitter account in her name in order to create bad impression against her among the Hindu people", he said.
He said the second tweet on the faked Tirupati trip was not only aimed at causing public distress but also slandered womanhood.
