Kamal Haasan to attend Murasoli function; Rajinikanth unlikely

The DMK and its supporters see Rajnikanth's entry as a setback to it, considering his ideological orientation which goes along with the BJP.

Chennai: Actor Kamal Haasan, who has emerged as a rallying point against AIADMK government, will attend the platinum jubilee of DMK organ Murasoli on August 10.

Kamal Haasan and poet Vairamuthu will be the only non-journalist in a session to be attended by top journalists from all English newspapers, besides Tamil newspapers and weeklies. However, the participation of actor Rajinikanth, either as a onlooker or speaker is doubtful, even though former DMK minister K. Ponmudi said the party would try to bring him to the function.

However, for the DMK, giving prominence to Kamal Haasan could take away the focus of Rajinkanth's possible political entry or stop the superstar from entering politics altogether. The DMK and its supporters see Rajnikanth's entry as a setback to it, considering his ideological orientation which goes along with the BJP.

A section of the vernacular media had already published surveys that Rajinikanth in alliance with former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam's AIADMK (PTA) and BJP could defeat the DMK in an election. Even though, Kamal Haasan's attack is on the AIADMK government, the BJP leaders in the state had lashed out at Kamal, showing the unease in the saffron camp as Kamal's impact could turn their script for Tamil Nadu awry.
