Human trafficking seminar held at Madras Christian College

The seminar was inaugurated by R. Raja Srinivas, DSP, Anti- Trafficking Cell, CB-CID, Chennai.

Chennai: To create awareness on various aspects of human trafficking, Madras Christian College (MCC) in collaboration with National Service Scheme (NSS) and International Justice Mission have organised a seminar on Monday.

The seminar was inaugurated by R. Raja Srinivas, DSP, Anti- Trafficking Cell, CB-CID, Chennai. “Women and children are the targeted for the trafficking especially for the purpose of prostitution and cheap labour,” said Raja Srinivas. He cited that the central government took a forward step by giving instructions to start an anti-trafficking unit in 2009.

“Human trafficking is a big crime; a crime that should be focused on everyday not just on special occasions. A strict law is the need of the hour.

Making difference in one victims life, can make a huge impact in someone’s life,” said Merlin Freeda, Director of Operation, IJM, who delivered the keynote address.

Principal Alexander Jesu dasan, Prof. Miriam Samuel, head of the social work department, and professor Annadurai were among the others who participated.
