Chennai: Biker falls to death from bridge after mishap

The car driver, a doctor, was under the influence of alcohol and has been arrested, police said.

Chennai: A 48-year-old man riding his two-wheeler in the wrong direction on the Chromepet flyover was killed after his bike collided head on with a car late Sunday night which led to the man falling to his death from a height of 30 feet.

The deceased was identified as Iqbal (48), a resident of Broadway. Iqbal runs a biryani centre at Hastinapuram near Chromepet. Every night, after shutting shop, Iqbal travels home around midnight, police said.

On Sunday too, he was returning home when he chose to take the wrong route on the flyover when his bike collided onto a sedan coming in the flyover. “In the impact, Iqbal was thrown off his bike and fell from a height of 30 feet onto the ground,” a police officer said. Passersby rushed to his aid and moved him to the Chromepet Government Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The sedan was driven by a doctor, Prem Chand (37), a resident of Nehru Nagar in Chromepet. He was returning home from his clinic and on checks, it was found that he was under the influence of alcohol, police said. Chromepet police investigation wing have registered a case against the doctor for drunk driving and have detained him.
