Karkidaka Vavu Bali in memory of departed souls tomorrow.
Hyderabad: The Malayali community here will be organising Karkidaka Vavu Bali, a Hindu religious function in memory of departed souls on Tuesday. The sacrificial ritual is performed in memory of ancestors on the day of Vavu or Amavasya, when people gather on riverbanks or beaches in Kerala and offer "bali" for liberation of souls. Vavu Bali will be performed at Ganesh Ghat on the banks of Kapra lake in Sainikpuri, according to general secretary of the Ramadharma Prachara Sabha Mr Pradeep Nambiar.
“Vavu Bali will be from 6am till 10am. Karkidakam is the last month of Malayalam calendar, which falls in July-August. When someone dies, the younger ones in the family have to perform Bali, also called Pithru Tharpanam,” said Pradeep Nambiar.
