New taluks yet to get basic infrastructure, manpower: Siddaramaiah

The Congress leader also visited the Lingayat pilgrimage centre of Kudala Sangam where the memorial of Basavanna is situated.

Hubballi: Former Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah, who ended his four-day tour of Badami Assembly constituency on Sunday, took an indirect dig at the coalition government saying infrastructure has not yet been provided in the newly carved out taluks.

Stating that the government has not initiated any move to appoint staff or construct office premises for the new taluk of Guledagudd coming under his Assembly constituency, Mr Siddaramaiah said that no measures have been taken except to appoint the in-charge tahsildar. He also expressed helplessness in speeding up development works.

“I used to speak about developmental works earlier as I was running the government as chief minister. But, I cannot do so now as I am only head of the co-ordination committee,” Siddaramaiah said.

The Congress leader also visited the Lingayat pilgrimage centre of Kudala Sangam where the memorial of Basavanna is situated. Responding to the cracks which have developed at Ishta Linga at the Aikya Mantap, Siddaramaiah said that he will attract the attention of the government to the need to protect it.

Stressing on the need to protect Kannada language while speaking at a function organized by Kannada Development Authority, he said the Supreme Court has ruled that the state cannot impose the mother tongue in primary schools and this judgement is not good in the interest of regional languages.
