Parties hope to gain from leaders' biopic
Hyderabad: Biopics on three political leaders will hit the silver screen in the Telugu states before the general elections, and the TD, YSRC and the TRS are hoping that they will get some star dust on their campaigns.
Biopics on Telugu Desam founder president and late former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao, late Congress chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy are under production, and a new film is in the making on TRS president and Telangana state Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
The biopics are likely to be released in November and during Sankranti in January next, if the elections are not advanced. The elections are due in the normal course in April-May 2019.
The biopic on NTR has his son and actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, a Telugu Desam legislator, playing the key role. Kerala actor Mammotty plays YSR in the biopic on the late CM which is titled Yatra (Journey), keeping in mind his historic padayatra.
M. Nasser, the multilingual actor from the Tamil film industry, plays Mr Rao in Udyama Simham (Lion of the Movement), a reminder of the separate Telangana movement.
So it turns out that in AP, where the Telugu Desam and the YSRC are locked in a tough battle, it will be Ramanna (NTR) verses Rajanna (YSR). Both parties are expecting to reap some political mileage through the film.
Right now, YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is on a statewide padayatra, clearly inspired by his father YSR. Interesting, both the Congress and the YSRC are owning YSR for political mileage.
In Telangana state, it will be Chandranna (KCR) and the TRS hopes it will add to the party’s efforts at the hustings.
