MK Stalin calls for all-party meet to discuss Cauvery strategy

Stalin's joint-conspiracy' charge slamming the Modi Government as well has caused quick resentment in the BJP as well as the AIADMK camps.

Chennai: DMK working president M.K.Stalin on Saturday urged the Chief Minister to “immediately” convene an all-party meeting to discuss strategy for countering the Karnataka moves to subvert the Supreme Court order on the sharing of the Cauvery water.

Pointing out that the Karnataka CM, H. D. Kumaraswamy had held an all-party meeting in Bengaluru earlier in the day and got resolutions passed for the MPs in his state to once again debate Cauvery in the Parliament, besides moving the Supreme Court seeking clarification on its ‘Scheme’ prescription, Stalin in a statement here said the neighbouring state “continues to practice vengeful deceit (vanjagam)” in striving to continue to deny Tamil Nadu its due share of Cauvery-even after the Supreme Court delivered solution after decades of struggle.

The DMK leader also saw a ‘joint conspiracy’ in Kumaraswamy convening his all-party meet soon after meeting the Prime Minister and the Union Water Resources Minister in Delhi. “We are made to believe there could be a joint conspiracy aimed at continuing the injustice to Tamil Nadu on Cauvery”, Stalin said, implying that the BJP Government at the Centre was backing Karnataka against TN.

“This creates fear among all that the BJP and the Karnataka Government are together scheming to vitiate the inter-state relations and subvert the livelihood rights of TN farmers”, said the DMK leader, calling upon CM Palaniswami to “immediately” convene all-party meeting to discuss ways of ensuring that “at least this minimum relief” secured by TN (through the SC order) is not lost.

The CM should initiate steps for “united fight” by all the parties in the state to secure the Cauvery dues, while cautioning the BJP Government that TN has more MPs than Karnataka, Stalin said, adding that the CM should lead a delegation of TN MPs to meet the PM to press for the implementation of the Supreme Court order.

Stalin's ‘joint-conspiracy’ charge slamming the Modi Government as well has caused quick resentment in the BJP as well as the AIADMK camps.

“The Centre acted swiftly to constitute the Cauvery Authority without even waiting for Karnataka to nominate its member. While Stalin is making all his baseless charges of conspiracy against the BJP and the Centre, why is he keeping mum about the Congress role in Karnataka? After all, Kumaraswamy rules there courtesy the Congress support”, said BJP state secretary K. T. Raghavan.

“Even if Stalin is nervous about asking Rahul Gandhi why he cannot do justice for Tamil Nadu, he could at least goad the state Congress president Thirunavukarasar to raise voice for the TN farmers”, Raghavan told Deccan Chronicle.
