Poor condition of the road, a major parallel road to Tripunithura Vyttila road, is causing accidents and regular traffic congestion in the area.

KOCHI: The busy Tripunithura–Eroor road has become a nightmare for commuters as the road trenched for cable laying two months ago is yet to be restored. The road which was resurfaced to good condition in recent past has been trenched for KSEB utility line laying in early May. Though the work was completed within a month, the road has not been restored. Poor condition of the road, a major parallel road to Tripunithura – Vyttila road, is causing accidents and regular traffic congestion in the area.

“Business has gone down in the area because of bad condition of the road. Customers can’t park vehicle in front of shops. Two wheeler riders are the worst affected as they fell into the deep potholes and ditches. Last week a youngster fell down from the two-wheeler and was injured seriously,” said S. Sudheesh, owner of a restaurant in the area.

More than half of the portion of the road is marked with deep potholes and bumpy stones forcing vehicles to use the other side, resulting in heavy congestion during peak hours. With the onset of monsoon, the potholes have become deeper posing serious threat. M. Lakshmy, a regular commuter said that riding through the stretch has become a trapeze act.

Meanwhile, sources at KSEB told DC that the road has not been restored because there are few other pipeline works of Kerala Water Authority scheduled in the area. “Repairing the road now will be waste of money as it has to be trenched again soon,” sources said, According to KWA officials, pipeline laying works could be carried out only after the monsoon recedes. “It will take two months to complete the works only after which the road can be properly restored,” sources said. It means, the commutes and local residents have to bear with the hardship for few more months.
