Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s Kargil hero Major Padmapani Acharya, who was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra posthumously for his bravery during the Kargil War, was commemorated through a coffee table book authored by his 19-year daughter Aparajita, who was born three months after his death.

The book, which was launched on Saturday, speaks about the martyr’s personal life, which includes a collection of his letters that he sent home and some photographs.

Maj. Acharya was commissioned into 2 Raj-putana Rifles and led his company in the Kargil War. He made the sup-reme sacrifice on June 28, 1999, while leading a platoon to capture Tololing through artillery fire.

The book was released jointly by Maj. Gen. N. Srinivas Rao, General Officer Commanding, Telangana Sub Area and Ms Aparajita. The General said, “Maj. Padmapani Acharya led his men through the artillery shelling and made the supreme sacrifice to accomplish the mission.”
