Chennai: Two arrested for constable's murder
Chennai: City police on Saturday arrested two men in connection with the murder of a 39-year-old grade-1 constable from Sunguvar Chatram police station in the outskirts of the city, a week ago.
On June 25, the constable, P. Mohanraj (39) was returning home on his two-wheeler en route Thirumangalam Kandigai village near Sunguvar Chatram.
Next morning, some passers-by noticed a two-wheeler abandoned near a private school in the village and found Mohanraj’s body. They informed Sunguvar Chatram police station and the police rushed to spot and identified the deceased person as their colleague.
Following this, the Kancheepuram SP Santosh Hathimani formed three special teams and launched a hunt for the suspects. After examining the CCTV camera footage, police short-listed 47 auto drivers who were travelling on that route that night.
Later they monitored the movement of cell phone through towers and nabbed two auto drivers, Murugan (28) and Yellappan (26).
During the enquiry, they confessed that the duo along with three other was drinking in the verandah of a school in Sunguvar Chatram when Mohanraj dressed in mufty asked them to leave.
Murugan and Yellappan thought of him to be a rowdy demanding money, like it usually happens in the night, and hacked him with an iron rod from the auto and alcohol bottles.
