CBSE increases awards

Hyderabad: With the aim of motivating teachers, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has increased the number of CBSE awards from 34 to 48. For the first time, 10 awards out of 48 have been earmarked for performing arts, special educators, school counsellors, vocational subjects, physical education and IT teachers also.
There are five awards for principals and the rest for various subject teachers to motivate deserving primary, secondary and senior secondary teachers. According to CBSE, the awards to teachers hold a prestigious place across all the CBSE-affiliated schools in India and abroad, and a special significance as the principals and teachers are chosen through rigorous processes based on the significant contributions, academic interest, reputation of a teacher in the community and commitment towards education.
The board for the first time has opened the portal inviting online applications from principals and teachers for CBSE awards 2017-2018. In a significant departure from the earlier practice which was manual and conducted at regional level, the new online application system is aimed at bringing transparency and objectivity in entire assessment process.
The online application can be filled between June 29, 2018 to July 13, 2018.
The Board has formed the National Level Screening Committee at the CBSE headquarter instead of Regional committee constituted earlier. This committee will select the Principals and teachers on the basis of General Criteria for all categories of awards, such as Academic Qualifications, Scholarly Contributions, Functional Research, Curriculum, Community and Student Development achievements, awards and honours. The Specific criteria, will cover effectiveness as a teacher, remedial teaching, contribution of the teacher thereof and Face to face interaction.
The online application can be filled between June 29, 2018 to July 13, 2018. The shortlisted candidates will be intimated on July 14, 2018 for uploading supporting documents. The entire process of award announcement will be completed by July 30, 2018.
The principals and teachers will be required to attach a self appraisal, statement of teaching Philosophy along with recommendation letter by the school principal in case of teachers and letter from the Chairman and Manager of the school managing committee in case of principal.
The selection will also be based on two video graphed lessons of 30 minutes each of actual classroom teaching with lesson plans. Top 6 awardees of CBSE will be recommended by the National Level Screening Committee for the National Teacher Awards, given by the MHRD.
