Karnataka: Water level rises in Cauvery basin dams

At Kabini, the water level on Friday was 2260.27 ft as against its capacity to hold 2284 ft of water and the inflow was 7680 cusecs.

Mysuru: With the South West Monsoon proving kinder to Kodagu and Wyanad, the storage in the reservoirs in the Cauvery basin has risen owing to better inflow.

The improved rainfall has upped the average rain received in Kodagu from January to June 30 this year to 702.68 mm as against 661.52 mm during the same period last year. According to irrigation department sources, the gross storage at the Krishna Raja Sagar dam was 7.411 TMC, at Kabini , 7.426 TMC, at Harangi, 2.87 TMC, and at Hemavathi, 4.83 TMC.

There was tension for a while at Kabini reservoir when farmers of Beechanahalli in HD Kote taluk raised slogans against officials for allegedly releasing water to Subhash Power Corporation. But the officials denied it, saying they had let water into the river to meet the drinking needs of Bengaluru.

At Kabini, the water level on Friday was 2260.27 ft as against its capacity to hold 2284 ft of water and the inflow was 7680 cusecs. The water level at KRS was 71.20ft as against its capacity to hold 124.80 ft, and the inflow was 7818 cusecs.

At Hemavathi, the water level was 2864.11 ft as against its capacity to hold 2922 ft, and the inflow was 3082 cusecs. At Harangi the water level was 2822.21 ft as against its capacity to hold 2859 ft and the inflow was 742 cusecs.
