Select foreign varsities will come to India
Chennai: Ministry of human resource development on its 'Some Inputs for Draft National Education Policy 2016' has said select foreign universities from top 200 in the world will be encouraged to establish their presence in India through collaboration with Indian Universities.
The ministry released a 43-page document on the new education policy on Wednesday on www.mygov.in website.
The document does not appear to be a summary of the over 200-page report submitted by T.S.R. Subramanian committee. However, it has included some of the key recommendations like reducing no-detention policy, bringing back Class X board exams and others.
It also said separate educational tribunals will be established at the centre and in the States to deal with litigation and address public grievances against the government as well as private institutions. These bodies will be headed by a retired high court judge.
It also said efforts will be made to merge schools wherever the institutions are not viable. The document also said a national level common curriculum for Science, Maths and English subjects would be introduced.
The document also recommends a five-year review of the policy to keep up with emerging national and global trends. It also sets the target of at least 90% of adult population meeting literacy and numeracy skills.
P.B. Prince Gajendrababu, general secretary, State Platform for Common School System said, “The draft of new education policy is a clear road
map for bringing education as a commodity. Educational tribunals will be powerless compared to courts. This document is against the vision of our Constitution and we will present an alternate proposal to the government.”
The MHRD has invited the views and suggestions on the draft national education policy by July 31.
