Hyderabad: The traffic cops will conduct a special drive against motorists travelling without number plates on their vehicles.
Additional commissioner of police (traffic) Jitender said vehicles without registration number plates would be detained. “Vehicles will be released only after the motorist affixes the number plate. Challans will be issued to the motorist as per the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act,” he said.
The motorists booked for commuting without a number on the vehicle will have to attend a counselling session either at Traffic Training Institute at Goshamahal or Begumpet.
This drive will be conducted during non-peak hours and away from the junctions so as to not obstruct traffic flow. Asked if the drive being launched in view of an intelligence alert in the backdrop of ISIS terror modules being arrested by National Investigation Agency in the city, Mr Jitender said the police normally keeps booking cases against vehicles without number plates.
Stating that the special drive was also from the law and order point of view, he said of late youngsters were speeding on bikes without number plates. Even four-wheelers were not having proper number plates or one or two numbers or alphabets were missing. The number plate should be correct with all the numbers and alphabets clearly visible, he said. He said clear number plates were vital to identify the vehicle in hit and run cases.
Licence suspended of 36 erring motorists
RTA officials have suspended the driving licence of 36 motorists for repeated violation of the Motors Vehicle Act such as over-loading, speeding, signal jumping and cellphone driving.
The traffic police had sent a list of 61 driving licences for violation of provisions of MV Act.
The traffic cops have also sent another list of 217 motorists seeking the suspension of their driving licences for being booked on multiple occasions for drunken driving.
The joint transport commissioner’s office had suspended over 190 licences where drivers had been booked for drunk driving three or more times.
The traffic police has decided to cancel the permits and registration of autorickshaws found to be plying without meters or by modifying seats.
