Karnataka: Savadi, Shettar likely to get prominent posts

Mangaluru: Despite not being inducted into the Karnataka state cabinet, Laxman Savadi, former Deputy Chief Minister who joined the Congress party after quitting the BJP, is hopeful of getting significant role in the government.

Savadi's exclusion from the state cabinet surprised many. He won Athani with an impressive margin of 76,122. Speculations are rife on Congress party granting him a prominent post. The visit of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president and Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, to Belagavi to meet Savadi has fuelled these rumors.

Shivakumar, speaking to reporters, said, “Savadi is a valued leader of the party. He joined us in difficult times and strengthened the party," he said.

Shivakumar reiterated the Congress party's commitment to stand with those who have supported it during challenging times.

"The Congress will hold the hands of those who held our hand in tough times," Shivakumar said. However he refused to give more details on how the party would recognise these leaders.

It is speculated that Savadi may be offered a position equivalent to cabinet rank in the government. Similarly, there are discussions about the possibility of Congress nominating Jagadish Shettar as its candidate in the upcoming parliamentary election.

Jagadish Shettar, a former Chief Minister, joined the Congress after being denied a ticket by the BJP. However, Shettar faced defeat against BJP's Mahesh Tenginkai.
