Overconfidence did us in: Vinod Kumar
Karimnagar: The jingoism that spread across the nation among citizens, led the BJP to register a massive victory and the overconfidence among leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti in Karimnagar Parliament constituency resulted in the defeat of the TRS party in the recently held Lok Sabha elections in Karimnagar, said party senior leader and former MP Boinapalli Vinod Kumar.
Mr Vinod Kumar held a press meet for the first time after his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections at the hands of BJP candidate Bandi Sanjay Kumar here at his residence in Karimnagar along with MLAs G. Kamalakar, R. Balakishan, S. Ravi Shankar and V. Satish Kumar, MLCs, Santosh Kumar and N. Laxman Das and ZP chairperson Tula Uma.
Speaking to press persons, Mr Vinod Kumar said that the attacks on Balakot and Pulwama by India and the return of Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman instilled patriotism among people along with spreading jingoism and this became an advantage for the BJP in the elections. Young voters who are naturally excited voted for the BJP to show their patriotism, ignoring issues like unemployment and corruption, he added.
“I entered politics for the cause of a separate Telangana, not for enjoying positions. I actively participated in the separate Telangana movement and followed the directions given by Chief Minister K. Chandra-shekar Rao. During my tenure as MP from 2014 to 2019, I worked hard in the best interests of Telangana and Karim-nagar. It is because of me that Karimnagar got Smart City, new railway line, a Science centre, AIIMS, Central University and IT tower and cable bridge along with clearances from many departments for the dream project of CM KCR — Kaleshwaram,” said Mr Vinod.
He also added that as an MP, he participated in maximum debates and introduced many private bills in the sessions that took place in Parliament. Mr Vinod said, “Men may come and go. But the works we do will remain forever in the hearts of people. I respect the people’s verdict and will fight on various issues for their betterment.”
Mr Vinod said that the party was still trying to find out the reasons for the losses. After coming to a conclusion where it had gone wrong and who was responsible, necessary action would be taken.
