Double joy for Sumalatha Ambareesh: Son’s film released

Mandya JD(S) rival Nikhil commends her for win, assures co-operation.

Mysuru: After winning the Mandya Lok Sabha seat as an independent candidate after giving a tough fight to CM H.D. Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil in Mandya, it was time for a double celebration for Sumalatha Ambareesh on Friday with her son Abhishek's first movie released on Friday. She watched the movie at Woodlands theatre here.

Speaking to media persons after watching the movie, she said, "as a mother, it is difficult for me to review the movie. It has come out well. All those who have seen the movie have opined that Abhishek looks like Ambareesh. And this has brought me alot of happiness. If Ambareesh was with us, the joy would have been more," she said.

Meanwhile, setting political differences aside, Nikhil Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (S), who lost to Sumalatha in Mandya, congratulated her on her win and took full responsibility for his own defeat.

In a post on social media, he accepted her offer of cooperation with the JD(S) in developing Mandya, saying, "I am here to join hands with anyone on the development of Mandya. I take full responsibility for the election and do not want to blame anyone, including JD(S) MLAs, MLCs, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, JD(S) Supremo H.D. Deve Gowda or the lakhs of party workers, who relentlessly worked for me. In fact, I will apologise to all my karyakarthas for having disappointed them."

Referring to the JD(S)-Congress coalition government headed by Mr Kumaraswamy, he said it had promised Rs 8,671 crore for the development of Mandya district in the budget and he would ensure that the projects were implemented.

" I want to thank the 5.76 lakh voters of Mandya, who had faith in me and I will try to earn the respect of the other voters in days to come. Technically, I might have lost this election but I personally feel I have gained a lot in this journey . I will be touring all the districts across the state to try and understand the issues (concerning the people) and and also motivate my party workers," he added.

The young politician ended by congratulating Mr Abhishek Gowda, son of the late M H Ambareesh on his debut movie 'Amar' being released across the state on Friday.
