Do not to allow underage driving: Majeed
Warangal: “Every day many lives are shattered because of underage drivers going for a joyride in the vehicles of their parents or older relatives. Inexpe-rience leads to these drivers underestimating hazardous situations causing accidents,” said Md Majeed, assistant commissioner of police, Traffic division.
He was addressing parents and underage drivers who were caught driving without a licence at the traffic training institute in Warangal on Friday. Mr Majeed explained to them why minors must not be allowed to drive and showed them the videos of accidents caused by minor drivers. He also showed them the situation of the families who lost their loved ones in such accidents.
The traffic ACP told the parents and the minors that due to the lack of proper knowledge, parents were allowing their underage wards to drive. He advised them to keep a tab on what their children were doing and how they were traveling to and from their destinations. “Talk to them about the consequences of their actions and the trouble they can get into. Stress the responsibility and the dangers to road safety from time to time. Discuss with children the need to avoid peer pressure and to avoid climbing into vehicles with underage and intoxicated drivers. Also keep the keys where underage children cannot get to them,” he said
Along with these, 17 others caught drunk driving were also given counselling. Along with the ACP, personnel at the traffic training institute took part in it.
T. Damodar, A. Narender, M Surender took part in the counselling session.
