Cops arrest Telangana Intelligence officer for harassing

Around 20 days, he kept calling the woman, even during odd hours, on her official contact number and harassed her into talking to him.

Hyderabad: A 51-year-old man working as an office superintendent in the Telangana state Intelligence wing was arrested by the Meerpet police on Friday for verbally abusing and harassing a female municipal commissioner.

Anwar Hussain, 51, a resident of Badangpet, established contact with the woman during official work and introduced himself as an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) official.

Subsequently, for around 20 days, he kept calling the woman, even during odd hours, on her official contact number and harassed her into talking to him. He threatened her of ACB raids if she failed to comply.

Vexed with the harassment, the victim lodged a complaint with the police on May 29 following which, a case was registered under section 354 (D) of the IPC.

The accused Anwar was placed under arrest on Friday. Meerpet inspector N. Yadaiah said, “Anwar worked as an office superintendent in the Intelligence wing of the state police. He has been arrested and produced before a court for the judicial remand.”
