Consider plea from Don Bosco Matriculation school: Madras high court

Justice Pushpa Sathyanaraynana gave the directive while disposing of a petition filed by Don Bosco Matriculation School.

Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the Director of Matriculation Schools to consider the case of Don Bosco Matriculation School at Karanodai in the city, for upgradation of the school with higher secondary sections and pass orders.

Justice Pushpa Sathyanaraynana gave the directive while disposing of a petition filed by Don Bosco Matriculation School.

According to G. Sankaran, counsel for the petitioner, the school was established in the year 1996 and it was now under the administration of Sister of Charity. It was granted permission as per the proceedings of the Director of School Education. Subsequently, temporary recognition was granted to the said school on September 27, 1996. Thereafter, on August 12, 1999, the Director of School education granted recognition to the said school for 10th standard and it has been periodically extended under the provisions of the Matriculation Code. In order to provide complete school education within their school campus to the children in and around the village, the school management decided to upgrade the existing Matriculation High School to one of Higher Secondary School from the academic year 2019-2020.

The school had also satisfied the requisite conditions as stipulated in a G.O dated July 20, 2017 relating to minimum land area. Hence, the petitioner school made a proposal to the Director of Matriculation School as early as on November 16, 2018 along with all the particulars with regard to the infrastructural and instructional facilities available in the school for upgradation of the school up to 12th standard. But there was no response. Hence, the school filed the present petition, Sankaran added. The judge said, “This court, without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case, directs the Director of Matriculation School to consider the case of the petitioner, based on their proposals as per the Rules and Regulations for upgradation of the school and pass reasoned orders, on merits and in accordance with law, after issuing notice to the petitioner and persons interested in this regard and also affording them an opportunity of personal hearing”.The judge passed similar orders in respect of Holy Cross Matriculation School in Thiruvottiyur and Guruji Sri Muralidhara Swamigal Matriculation School in Vadapalani.
