Result endorsement of government's policies, says CM Pinarayi Vijayan

The verdict has shown that such bargaining in the name of religion and caste would not work in the state.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said the verdict of Chengannur clearly pointed out that people are the ultimate judges in democracy. At a press conference after the stupendous victory, the Chief Minister said the people’s mandate clearly depicted the huge support for LDF government’s policies. They have expressed unprecedented solidarity with the government, he added. He said despite such a big misinformation campaign carried out by a section of media, the people’s ability to understand the truth was also reflected in the mandate. All sections of society cutting across caste and religion, supported the LDF in an unprecedented manner, he said.

The Chief Minister said the verdict indicated that people were uniting for development issues setting aside their political differences. Certain political parties were banking on caste and communal equations in the constituency with the hope of dividing votes. The verdict has shown that such bargaining in the name of religion and caste would not work in the state.

“People are basically for the good and welfare of everyone. No caste or religion can become as an obstacle before development agenda. The mandate marked the emergence of a new political culture. People have accepted with one mind the LDF’s secular, development oriented and peace centric policies,” he added.
Pinaryi said the huge addition in LDF votes indicated that new voters had backed the ruling front in a big way. “I express my sincere thanks to them,” he said.

He said many controversies cropped up recently but the government stuck to its development agenda and didn’t let its attention get diverted. The chief minister said the BJP and NDA which tried to divide the people on communal lines through their fascist agenda were given a befitting reply by the people. Pinarayi added the result was a big blow the Congress’s anti development attitude in the state.
