Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed the NTR University of Health Sciences at Vijayawada to ensure that original certificates of petitioner students are returned by private medical colleges after they pay the prescribed fee.
A vacation bench comprising Justice S.V. Bhatt and Justice Shameem Akhter was dealing with two separate petitions by Dr D. Siva Sumanth of Krishna district who had secured a PG medical seat in AIIMS, Jodhpur, and Dr P. Madhuri of Guntur who had got a seat in AIIMS, Delhi. They were seeking a direction to the registrar of the university take steps to return of their original certificates after they remitted Rs 3 lakh fee as per GO Ms No 67.
Counsels appearing for the petitioners told the court that Dr Sumanth had secured admission to the PG course in Siddhartha Medical College at Vijayawada and Dr Madhuri at the Rangaraya Medical College as per their ranks in Neet 2017. They later appeared for the test conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and secured Ranks 121 and 33 respectively.
They submitted that the government issued GO No 67 which prescribed that a candidate who has secured admission should pay Rs 3 lakh if they want to leave the seat once allotted. They will became ineligible to appear for the entrance test for PG medical courses for a period of three years.
The bench felt that in view of the seats secured by the petitioners the question of their appearing for the entrance test does not arise. The managements of the colleges have to return their certificates after collecting Rs 3 lakh each from them.
