Krishnagiri: In a brutal episode on Thursday, villagers of Onnalvadi village near here mercilessly beat a 25-year-old youth from a northern state to death, mistaking him to be a child-lifter.
The youth, wearing blue trouser and red colour shirt, was allegedly caught by the villagers when the man was found moving about. Suspecting him to be a child-lifter, despite local police's efforts to create awareness among the public to guard against such misdemeanors, took him to the Onnalvadi high school ground, and beat him black and blue there with wooden logs. The village is located 15 km from Hosur, along the Hosur-Dharmapuri highway.
Some people who witnessed the incident took pity on him and called the police. The Hosur town police went to the place and saved the victim who was lying unconscious at the spot. A private ambulance transported him to the Hosur government hospital, but he died there without responding to treatment. Hosur police registered a case and efforts to nab the culprits are on.
