Youth was beaten up by police for refusing to give bribe in Vikarabad
Hyderabad: Kanna Reddy, who was allegedly beaten up by cops in Vikarabad for refusing to pay a bribe, is still critical. Doctors said after conducting further investigations they can determine the cause of the injuries on both kidneys.
Kanna was admitted to a private hospital from where he was shifted to Kamineni Hospital in King Koti. Doctors said that when he was admitted to the hospital, both his kidneys were dysfunctional and his creatinine levels were high.
“Both the kidneys are still dysfunctional due to acute injuries, but the condition has improved due to dialysis. He is still in the ICU and needs to be closely monitored for at least three more days,” said doctors at KIMS who are treating Kanna.
On Tuesday, his creatinine was as high as 7.0, but by Wednesday it came down to 5.6 due to constant dialysis. They said more investigations were under way to find out the cause of injuries to the kidneys.
Meanwhile, Kanna’s family demanded strict action against the police personnel and the Agricultural Officer (AO) Neeraja who were responsible for his situation. “Though there is a case registered against the SI and other cops and the AO, there is no action. They are responsible for the present condition of Kanna and strict action should be taken against them,” said Kanna’s elder brother Shekar Reddy.
Meanwhile, police who are investigating the case registered against the Mominpet SI Raju and other police personnel and the AO and her husband said that they are collecting the evidence on Kanna’s allegations and based on that they would proceed. Meanwhile, Vikarabad Superintendent of Police Ms T Annapurna had issued orders attaching SI K Raju, ASI M Veeraswamy, head constables M. Venkataiah and M. Shankaraiah, constables B. Shivaiah and Raghavender to the district headquarters.
Kanna Reddy, a 21 year old engineering graduate, was allegedly beaten by the police in the presence of the AO and her husband after he refused to pay bribes on behalf of his brother Shekar Reddy to get a license to open a fertiliser store in Mominpet.
A case of voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult and criminal intimidation was registered against the police and the agricultural officer and her husband and a case against Kanna and his brother were registered on charges of obstructing the duties of a public servant.
