Karnataka: Visvesvaraya Technological University exam mess to affect students future
Bengaluru: State Higher Education Minister Basavaraja Rayareddy remark on Tuesday that Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) was starved of funds and may have to be closed down has added to the anxiety among the students, many of whom are already battling issues such as withheld results.
He had blamed the Union Government for confiscation of university funds by the Income Tax department. He, however, assured to resolve the issue in few days.
However, in reality the situation in more grim with thousands of students yet to receive their withheld results, due to failure on part of VTU to smoothly conduct valuation. Many of them have been forced to reappear for the reexamination.
The faculty of colleges affiliated to the university have no clue about revaluation. A professor from an engineering college said they have just completed their first valuation.
"We are now preparing our students for the next semester examination. We don't have time to revalue even if university issues directions. For the first time such a situation has surfaced in the university," he said.
An officer from the state higher education department informed that the withheld results is expected to affect the reputation of the university as well as future of thousands of students. "VTU administration has reached its nadir. Everyone here are mute spectators. Only governor can save the university,” he said.
Answer sheets missing
VTU is withholding the results of thousands of students due to various reasons, including missing answer sheets. The authorities are forcing students to appear for re-examination. Those who have applied for the revaluation too are facing the same situation.
"But once we are shown failed in any subject in our mark sheet, many MNCs will not hire us. VTU authorities have little idea about the HR policies of the MNCs. Due to VTU’s mistake we are being made to pay,” alleged a student.
