Tamil Nadu: Farmer's son emerges state topper in UPSC exam

He secured 21st rank at all India level and came as state topper in the exam.

Chennai: Pratap M, a 23-year-old engineering graduate of Anna University, has cracked the civil services exam in his first attempt. He secured 21st rank at all India level and came as state topper in the exam.

Hailing from Vathirayiruppu near Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district he studied BE chemical engineering in Anna University. His father Murugan is a farmer.

Saravanan V who secured 27th rank is also an alumnus of Anna University. He passed out in 2013 in ECE branch. His native is Kanavaipatti in Dindigul district and he is the first graduate from his family.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the results of civil service examination on Wednesday. Of 1,099 candidates shortlisted for various services including IAS and IPS around 86 candidates are from Tamil Nadu this year.

“The results have shown slight improvement compared to last year. Last year only 78 candidates were featured in the list. Among the top 100 nearly 10 candidates featured on the list,” said D.Shankar, director, Shankar IAS Academy.
Nandini K R from Bangalore has topped the UPSC Civil Services exam at the national level.

A total number of 1,099 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various posts including IAS and IPS.

The civil service exams were conducted in August 2016 for which over 4 lakh candidates appeared. About 15,452 candidates qualified for the main exam that was conducted in December 2016 of whom 2,961 qualified for the personality test.
