UPSC exam: A childhood dream accomplished in second attempt
Bengaluru: Kembodi Ramesh Nandini, a B.E (Civil Engineering) from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology of the city secured the 1st rank in the Civil Services (Main Examination) UPSC 2016. She is the second from the state to secure 1st rank in the civil services main examination from Karnataka. In the year 2000, Vijayalakshmi Bidari, daughter of retired DG & IGP Mr. Shankar M Bidari had achieved this feast.
Hailing from a middle class family from Muneshwarnagar of Kolar city, Ms. Nandini pursued her primary education from Chinmaya school, Kolar. She moved to Alva's College, Moodabidiri in Dakshnina Kannada district for her PU education. After PU she pursued her BE in civil engineering from S Ramaiah Institute of Technology of the city.
Nandini's father Mr. K Ramesh is a teacher at Mudavadi high school while her mother Vimala teaches in a private school in Kolar city.
This is the second attempt of Ms. Nandini. In her first attempt in 2014 she had secured 849th rank.
Joining the civil service is a childhood dream for Ms. Nandini. She started her career with Public Works Department (PWD) Karnataka and worked for nearly a year as an engineer. But to pursue her dream of becoming an IAS officer she quit her job and moved to Delhi to pursue coaching along with her father.
Ms. Nandini told the media soon after she heard she had topped the UPSC she was this close to her dream coming true.
"Since childhood, I have wanted to be an IAS officer," she said.
Her father Mr. K Ramesh spoke of the young woman's grit and determination. "We were confident of her achievement and we are delighted by her feat. Hard work is the secret of her success,' he said.
