Bhoopathy appointed new assembly secretary
Chennai: The state on Wednesday promoted additional assembly secretary K. Bhoopathy as the new assembly secretary. Bhoopathy joined the state government in 1985 and replaces assembly secretary A. M. P Jamaludeen who was given five years extension by former CM Jayalalithaa. Mr. Jamaludeen has been holding the post since May 2011, when the AIADMK returned to power.
The soft-spoken Bhoopathy holds a law degree and is a native of Madurai district. The new assembly secretary has eight months to retire and has the Herculean task of cond ucting the assembly particularly when the ruling AIADMK is facing factional feud.
It may be noted that former late chief minister J. Jayalalithaa and speaker P. Dhanapal would often consult the assembly proceedings with Jamaludeen.
“The state is doing away the concept of providing extensions to retired bureaucrats through this the state would also save a few lakhs to its already strained exchequer,” said a state official.
