Terms set for Haleem sellers in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The GHMC has warned commercial haleem makers not to set up ‘bhattis’ on upper floors of restaurants. They should be on the ground floor. The corporation will seize the establishments of violators.
The City Light hotel in Secunderabad collapsed in 2013 as the owner had set up heavy boilers in the kitchen located on the top floor of the decades-old building to prepare haleem.
Deputy mayor Mr Baba Fasiuddin told traders on Tuesday: “Procurement of meat should be from slaughter houses which have commenced operations. Quality ingredients should be used and hygiene must be maintained. Fire safety measures should be taken. Traders should ensure proper disposal of waste handing it over to tippers.”
Traders have been warned not to preserve haleem for the next day. “If any remain unsold, such shall be distributed free of cost to the poor on the same day and the remaining should be disposed.”
The haleem traders asked for exemption of sales tax during the Ramzan month and sought permission to remain open for business till the early hours in the morning.
The deputy mayor told them that their requests would be conveyed to the government.
