Telangana wants TSPSC to recruit professors
Hyderabad: The Telangana government wants to recruit university professors through the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC).
Prof E. Suresh Kumar, registrar of Osmania University, said that the state government has asked the universities to submit itsviews on this. He said, “A few days back we received a communication that we have to submit our views on it. No deadline has been given. We will discuss with representatives of the OU Teachers’ Association and decide what our view will be.”
However, the proposal is not going down well with the university teachers.
Prof Battu Satyanarayana of OU’s Chemistry department and chairman of Telangana State Federation of University Teachers Association, said, “This will end diversity of teachers in state universities. Now candidates apply from across the country. With selection through TSPSC, the recruitment will be only among this state’s candidates.”
He added, “When the university recruits teachers, it sets up a selection committee as per UGC guidelines which not just ensures standard but also makes sure it is as per the requirement of the particular department.
“If TSPSC starts recruiting candidates, its members will participate in recruitment and they can be politicians or people who are less qualified than the candidate.”
Prof G. Dayakar, president of Kakatiya University Teachers’ Association said, “Recruitment of university teachers through TSPSC will destroy the existing system, which is based on excellence in academics and research publication of a candidate. If the existing system has any loopholes it should be fixed and not completely replaced. We will vehemently oppose this moveof the government.”
