Chennai: Engineering courses have witnessed a fresh lease of life after going through a downward trend for the last few years with more than 2.52 lakh students registering themselves for this year’s engineering counselling.
Anna University sources said as on Tuesday evening 1,84,150 students had paid the fees for counselling and 81,100 applications were received for the counselling.
The online registration closed on Tuesday evening. The last date to submit the filled-in applications is June 4. “If one were to go by the number of students who paid the fees, it is still more than 20% of what we received last year. Last year, we received only 1.54 lakh applications. But we will know the final numbers only on June 4,” an Anna University official said.
Engineering counselling is expected to be held in the fourth week of June. But officials said they are yet to confirm the dates. VIT Chancellor G.Viswanathan said, “It is good that more students want to study engineering.” There is an increased awareness among people about importance of higher education. “The government has to make sure that these students are getting jobs. By way of partnering with industries, we can increase job opportunities for the students”....
