Hyderabad University not in UGC list of excellence

The UGC selected four universities under humanities and social sciences and five under S&T research projects.

Hyderabad: The UGC has selected research projects from nine universities across the country for the Centres with Potential for Excellence in Particular Areas scheme for 2016-21. Only Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, has made the list from the two Telugu states.

The UGC selected four universities under humanities and social sciences and five under S&T research projects. SV University has been selected for the project titled ‘Climate change perspectives through study on aerosols, atmospheric modelling and remote sensing’.

Dr S. Vijaya Bhaskara Rao, who heads the department says, “We applied for the CPEPA scheme last year when we presented our research in New Delhi. Around 118 projects were presented. It is yet to be seen how much funding will be allocated for our project. We had given a proposal for Rs 9.8 crore.”

Apart from SV University, two universities from Tamil Nadu and one each from Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir were selected for S&T projects. In humanities and social sciences one university each from Assam, New Delhi, MP and Maharashtra were selected.
