Wild Elephants wreak havoc in Kuppam

The forest officials were alerted, but by the time they reached the spot, the elephants had already left, villagers said.

Tirupati: A herd of 12 wild elephants wreaked havoc in agricultural fields at Gudupalle mandal in Kuppam constituency on Tuesday.

The raid dealt a blow to farmers cultivating tomato, banana and others. According to locals, the herd entered the mandal from adjoining Tamil Nadu reserve forests and marched through the fields across Onnapanayani Kothur village in the mandal. The farmers near Gudupalle said that the movement of elephants was heard from early hours of Tuesday.

The forest officials were alerted, but by the time they reached the spot, the elephants had already left, villagers said. The officials said that the elephants were passing along the corridor at the tri-state junction of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and AP.
