Rape victim kills self in K’giri, kin blame cops delay

Another reason cited for the girl’s suicide was the alleged police inaction in registering a case against her lover.

KRISHNAGIRI: The parents of a girl have alleged that their daughter had committed suicide as the police in Krishnagiri district failed to take action against her lover who raped her under the pretext of marriage.

While other reasons are also cited for the girl’s extreme step, sources said that the Police department will conduct a probe to see if there is any truth in the allegation against the police staff for not registering the girl’s complaint.

It was a pathetic scenario outside the house of 27-year-old graduate girl who committed suicide in her home at Jothi Nagar in Krishnagiri on Sunday night while alone. Her body was found hanging from the ceiling of the room.

The krishnagiri town police went to the spot on Monday and recovered the body which was later handed over to the relatives after completing the autopsy procedure.

Investigations revealed that the victim was in love for around three years with one S. Balan (30) of Vadugampalayam village, near Pollachi in Coimbatore district. The girl befriended him on social media and they later became lovers.

Tragically, the girl ended her life, alleging Balan who had ‘raped’ her many times, had finally decided to ditch her after she pressed him to tie the knot.

Another reason cited for the girl’s suicide was the alleged police inaction in registering a case against her lover. It was also alleged that the girl during the last two months, was made to run from one police station to another for registering the case.

Even as the girl victim was shunting between Krishnagiri, Coimbatore and Pollachi over police area jurisdictional issues, she became so desperate leading to her suicide, sources said. Her parents chiding her for a love affair was also cited as another reason leading to the tragedy.

The Krishnagiri police finally registered a case under three sections against the girl’s lover Balan. He was booked under IPC sections 417 (punishment for cheating), 506-ii (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 306 (abetment of suicide), sources added.
