Pathanamthitta: Arunima, a young girl in her late 20s from Valamchuzhi in Pathanamthitta, who had turned an icon for fighting cancer, succumbed to her disease at a private hospital in Kochi on Tuesday.

She had become popular through a private channel programme sharing her experiences of fighting cancer. She had chosen painting to overcome her trauma and also conducted an exhibition of her paintings.

Initially she worked as an office administrator with a hospital in Kochi, but she quit the job to join one that gave her more time to travel.

When she developed tooth pain and fever, she consulted a doctor in a private hospital in Pathanamthitta where she was diagnosed with infection in her intestine. She was taken to Amrita Hospital in Kochi where she underwent a keyhole surgery in her intestine. After the surgery, it was found that she had developed fourth stage cancer. She later spread awareness against cancer through her art.
