National panel orders suo motu investigation

Rasipuram child trafficking case.

Tiruchy: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) plans to hold a suo moto enquiry into the child trafficking incident at Rasipuram, said NCPCR member Dr R.G. Anand.

Speaking to DC over phone, Dr Anand said that they were all shocked to hear that the illegal child trafficking racket at Rasipuram was thriving for the last 30 years.

He said, the main accused, a former nurse Amudhavalli and her husband Ravichandran, were arrested in this connection. But, there are some more persons involved in kidnapping male children, and the NCPCR will commence its enquiry against this anti-social activity shortly. Dr Anand said the NCPCR would take all efforts to bring before the law, all those involved in the crime, he added.

Based on a complaint received by NCPCR, and under directions of NCPCR chairman, Priyank Kangoo, a team led by him visited a children’s home at Jagadalpur in Bastar district, Chhattisgarh, on Monday, and held discussion with the collector, superintendent of Police and members of the child welfare committee, and issued necessary directions, Dr Anand added.
