Hyderabad: The Musi River Development Corporation (MRDC) has decided to ask the Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to either construct decentralised sewage treatment plants (STPs) or establish them all along the shoreline of the Musi river in order to effectively treat the water which flows into the river from the city’s canals.
The officials requested the HMWS&SB to construct STPs at a common source point and locations where huge sewage outlets were left open, facilitating direct entry of large amounts of sewage into the river.
A senior MRDC official that the corporation will ask the Water Board to make necessary arrangements to direct the Krishna and Godavari water to flow into Musi.
He explained that this decision was taken in the wake of the glitch in water supply caused due to the leakages in the Manjira pipeline, which is being compensated with water from the Osmansagar and the Himayatsagar and due to which, the corporation has to now look out for other sources of water before executing the project.
Previously, the Musi River Development Corporation had planned to use water from the twin reservoirs for the Musi facelift.
