Locked house monitoring system evokes poor responce
Kurnool: Locked house monitoring system put in place by the police has evoked poor response as people prefer to leave their houses without informing jurisdictional police stations.
Though police claim reduction in reported cases of thefts, thieves strike at will particularly in colonies near the national highway like Ventaramana colony, railway station area, Stantanpuram etc.
With Rajastan and Bihari teams on the prowl, police alert the public that they should be vigilant of their properties. In case they were going out of station, they were advised to inform the local police station and utilise the LHMS, CI Maheswar Reddy said.
But residents are apprehensive of informing the police about their absence from their houses. Sathi Reddy, a retired employee at Venkataramana Colony, said that he was not comfortable informing the police as he feared an unknown threat. CI said that thefts had come down significantly owing to a micro strategy adopted by them in the fourth town area. He said that stranger monitoring had yielded results as they took into custody any one wandering in the colonies between midnight and 4’o clock in the morning. The bus stand area had been sanitised by driving away Hijras and others. Chain snatching too has not been reported, he said.
DIG Nagendra Kumar said police should step up vigil in the colonies to maintain law and order. He said visible policing should be made a priority to bring down cases. He said a Mahila police station would be set up at Nandyal very soon.
